The Technical University of Darmstadt is a public corporation with legal capacity according to § 1 Abs. 1 i.V.m. § 2 Abs. 1 Nr. 1 HHG (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz of December 14, 2009, GVBl. I S. 666). Since the TU Darmstadt Act (Gesetz zur organisatorischen Fortentwicklung der Technische Universität Darmstadt vom 05. Dezember 2004, GVBl. I S. 382, in the version of 14 December 2009, GVBl. I S. 699) came into effect, it has been an autonomous university of the State of Hesse.
