As we want to control our automobile model from an (almost) immobile computer (e.g. PC with steering wheel an pedals), we need some kind of wireless connection between both.

We choose Bluetooth as our wireless connection for the following reasons

• very low electric power consumption (battery-powered automobile!)
• operates on unlicensed industrial, scientific, medical (ISM) radio band
• sufficient data rate of about 700kbit/s
• sufficient range of about 50m (class 2 device)

The communication module consists of a 16bit microcontroller from Fujitsu and a bluetooth module.

They are connected via serial connection (UART).
